How To Back-up Your WordPress Blog
Your blog is likely to contain lots of information (and hard work) you don't want to lose. We back your files up daily, however, no system is perfect. It is always recommended, no matter who you host with, that you back up your website (and blog) often. The following tutorial will show how eVentureBiz web hosting customers can back up their WordPress Blog by backing up their database.
The rule of thumb is to keep at least 3 copies of your website in 3 different places (on your server, a CD, and your hard drive, for example). Also, be sure to backup your WordPress database before you upgrade or move it to a new location. There are two steps to backing up your WordPress blog manually:
- Backing up your database (shown below)
- Backing up your images and files (usually using FTP)
Back Up Your Database
| Step 1 Log into your control panel and look for the icon shown below. Click on it.
| Step 2 Click on your WordPress blog database. Ours is eventureb_blog.
| Step 3 Log into your phpMyAdmin
| Step 4 Click "Databases"
Step 5 Click on your WordPress blog database. Again, ours is eventureb_blog.
| Step 6 Click the "Export" tab.
| Step 7 If your blog is the only thing being used by this database, click "Select All," otherwise only select your WordPress files (ones that start with "wp_" or whatever 'table_prefix' you specified in your 'wp-config.php' file). Be sure the "SQL" is selected.
Step 8 Be sure the following boxes are ticked and all others are not ticked.
| Step 9 Tick "Save as file" and be leave "File name template" alone. Check the "None" for compression. If your database is very large use a compression method.
| Step 10 Click "Go."
Step 11 The file will download.
NOTE: You have now backed up your posts and comments; however, you still have to download your files and images to complete your backup. The easiest method to do this is to use a FTP client. There are many free FTP programs out there; here's one we like, Core FTP Lite.
