The Art of Persuasion (Part 2 of 3): Knowledge, Timing, Listening

No, it’s not a superpower, sorry.

The Art of Persuasion can be learned and simply needs a little practice. But practice doesn’t make perfect. We need to continually learn and practice what we learn to grow.

If mere repetition of something was all it took to get better, you’d think we’d get better at being only as good as we currently are.

I like real estate investing. It’s fun for me. My favorite part is where I get to be creative and find ways to make profit where most people wouldn’t think it possible. Most novice and uneducated investors only concern themselves with 2 things: buying low and selling high. While that is a great strategy, it’s not very creative and typically limits your playing field.

Unlike persuasion’s *evil* brother, manipulation, being a persuasive person can get you things you want while also helping others get what they want.

The Art of Persuasion (Part 1 of 3): Storytelling & Observation

In college I had to give a persuasive speech to 20 classmates for a communications course. My topic? I had to convince people there was life on other planets.

This can be a particularly hard thing to do being that there is no tangible evidence in support of it.

This was a great topic for me because I love astronomy and to me, life on other planets seems logical.

To prepare, my teacher told me I should brush up on the topic by reading what experts had to say about it and study the persuasive chapter in my over-priced shredding text book.

The Internet was somewhat new back then (1995ish) and with a 28.8k baud modem, finding lots of information on the sparsely populated Net and waiting a minute or so for a Web page to download was not an option.

Create Yourself A Shortcut - How To E-Mail, Blog, and Text On The Go!

Ever feel like there’s not enough time in the day to complete your tasks?

Is there a short cut?

I recently read an interview of an online buddy of mine, Harrison McLeod, on Dave Navarro’s Million Dollar Leverage blog. Dave is a time management coach for many entrepreneurs and in the comment section of Harry’s interview Dave encouraged me to take a little time each day and devote it to honing my time management skills.

Taking his advice, I spent a little time this morning surfing the Internet for ways to shave a little time off my schedule by using shortcuts. I came across this service called, Jott.

It allows you to send text messages and emails right from your phone. It can even be linked to your blog so you can speak your blog’s content right onto the computer. Talking about speeding up your workload! I don’t know about you but I speak much faster than I type. And with an ear piece, I can send my emails from anywhere at anytime.

My Marketing Hero Himself - Seth Godin

If you’re an entrepreneur and marketing is an important part of your business (it should be), then you need to get to know Seth Godin. He’s the best-selling author of my favorite marketing book, Purple Cow, and in my opinion is way ahead of his time.

His Blog is the only one I subscribe to by email, the rest I subscribe by RSS. I enjoy and look forward to his thought provoking messages every day or so.

He has a new book out called Meatball Sunday which I highly suggest you pick up.

So, here he is, the man of the hour talking about curiosity (click picture to watch video).

8 Drawbacks to Free Web Hosting

Being that I own a web hosting company, I frequently surf through online forums replying to people’s hosting questions. Of all the questions I answer, I see one that appears over and over again, what are the drawbacks of free web hosting?

So, for those of you who are interested, here they are . . .

  1. Free hosting accounts typically are packed onto 1 server with lots of other free hosting accounts. This clog of websites severely slows down the server with each one fighting for CPU time. Results: your site may work slow and go offline from time to time.
  2. Low bandwidth and limited disk space. You usually get 1-3GB of bandwidth with free hosting accounts. This translates to a site designed for very little traffic coming to it. If there is a lot of traffic coming to it (or another on your sever) your site may go down. Also, disk space is usually measured in megabytes (50-100mb). That’s basically enough space for a few pics and some text.
